Port Olona is a very well-protected port in Les Sables D’Olonne located in the Bay of Biscay and also a home town of famous Vendee Globe regatte around the globe.

Getting to Les Sables D’Olonne

We had a direct flight to Paris CGD airport, we take an AVIS rent-a-car (they had the cheapest offer compared to Sixt, Budget …) directly on the airport. From the CDG airport, you have less than 5 hours drive (95% is a highway). In Port Olona, a new Lagoon 450S is waiting for us and probably we will need to get a lot of equipment for a new boat and that is the main reason why we take a rent-a-car in a first place.

Also, there is a possibility to have a flight to Nantes () and from there, ypu can take a bus or train to Les Sables D’Olonne. If you travel with a lot of luggage then maybe the best option is to come with a private car or transfer if you are located in Europe.

Stores in Les Sables D’Olonne

The city is not so small as you can think in a first place, and what is interesting is that whole city is dedicated to the Vendee Globe event and for sailing. There is a lot of stores near the marina where you can buy everything for your sailboat if you wish to add something or just plan to make some modifications or repairs.

There is an online portal BigShip ( bigship.com ) and your online order you can deliver to the local store “Sables Nautique” located near the marina (sometimes this take a more than a week).

In case that you need spare parts for the engine, you have dealers for Volvo and Yanmar engines with most common spare parts but you can order everything that you need and wait for a few days to be delivered.

There is a lot of glossary stores in the city, close to the marina is Super U store where you can find almost everything. Much bigger store E.Leclerc Supermarket is located 2.8km (1.4 miles) from the marina where you can find everything you need.

Tools, Electronics, Sports Equipment you can find in shops located across the E.Leclerc Supermarket. On the same way to the Supermarket from the marina, there is a big sports store Decathlon with a lot of sports equipment.

Some equipment for the boat, diving, and fishing on a salt water you can find on a store located near the marina Comptoir De La Mer.

Still, we did not find any diving shops for scuba tanks or some equipment for scuba diving.
